Proposal programs

San Remo is one of the main residential and holiday towns within Bass Coast, historically being based around fishing, but in recent years has experienced both an increase in tourist related activities and a shift towards an aging population as part of the ‘sea change’ phenomenon. The population within the study area doubles over the summer holiday period as more than half of the properties are occupied on a part time basis. This project is mainly focussed on the redevelopment of foreshore area and follows these six main proposals.

1. connection of Marine parade to beach

2. local identification of San Remo at plaza

3. interaction with sea water

4. seasonal adaptation [peak and off peak]

5, multiple usage space

6. water filtration of existing sewer pipe via wetland

Sanremo foreshore: Master plan

Foreshore master plan

The design includes 10 different facilities, such as plaza, amphitheatre and promenade etc. The main geometry of plaza and promenade inspired from the key feature of tide’s movement, like the landscape can be “rising and edd tide”. This will connect public movement from Marine Parade to shore area. Amphitheatre is designed on the existing slope, where is near Phillip Island RD, for minimum change of the site. Wetland will suggest on the west side of the site to substitute a large existing storm water pipe. This will be potential of education elements or creating a new landscape at San Remo foreshore.

promenade

Promenade

There are three major design interventions on Promenade to expose Aboriginal identification.  Traditional moiety totems of the Bunurong, like Bunjil and Waang. This contains ethnic believe for protector of the waterways. The shelters on the promenade inspired from Aboriginal huts. It extracted from ground gently, so it create ambiguous boundary between landscape and structure.

Amphitheatre

Amphitheatre

Amphitheatre designed with light weight material for foldable root system and sustainability. It covers 1805 square meter on the site and this contains maximum 1220 people during event day. Existing slope will use for major seating area. This will effect on natural sonic landscape and minimal change of the site.

Wetland: cell system

Wetland: cell system

A large number of Cells will result on the quality of water filtration. 5 different cells are the maximum capacity of wetland. This will be the natural water treatment of SanRemo. Also, wetland will be a new habitation of birds as well. This will create the alternative landscape at SanRemo.
